World premiere in Montreal at FNC

Canada: Montreal was in full one love mode last week as the film Rasta A Soul’s Journey, directed by Stuart Samuels, had its world premiere on October 18, 2011, during the 40th anniversary of the Festival du Nouveau Cinema.
Capped by the sold out final screening on October 20 at Ex-Centris, the film, featuring Bob Marley’s granddaughter, Donisha Prendergast was wholeheartedly embraced and supported. Festival goers as well as Reggae and Rastafari enthusiasts were in their realm, creating a ripple effect that resonated amongst, Black history buffs, creative artists and the community in general.
In presenting global snapshots of Rastafari, through the eyes of Donisha, Rasta A Soul’s Journey opposes common myths about Rastafari and emits a unifying energy as viewers become privy to the universal impact of Rastafari. Patricia Scarlett, Executive Producer of the film who initiated the project, spoke of being pleased to finally see her ideas come to fruition and to have the film land on the big screen.
Celebrating the film’s world premiere, the cast and crew joined music and
film industry affiliates as well as global supporters for an exciting Reggae party on October 19 at the Jello Lounge. Rasta Live, as the party was titled, included an entertainment segment with Canadian based entertainers: The West Can Drummers; Fyaa Flamz’ Won-J; Orthodox Issachar and Errol Blackwood. Donisha spoke candidly about her experiences as a rasta woman and got the opportunity to share and exchange, up-close and personal with some of Montreal’s notables. Her unique and crisp rendition of Bob Marley’s War, performed with veteran Reggae crooner, Errol Blackwood, who played acoustic guitar, was moving; as was her drum duet with West Can Drummer, Chantal Lewis.
