Jamaican actress bears all in ‘CHECK YOUR BOOBS’ AD

Jamaican born, LA based ambassador to the Diaspora Shauna Chin has stepped out of her role as an acclaimed Hollywood actress to launch the “Check Your Boobs Campaign” – a breast cancer awareness ad campaign. “Before getting into acting I was trained as a Registered Nurse, yet nothing could have prepared me for what I went through when I learned that my friend was in the final stages of her battle with breast cancer. It was something she had been fighting for a few years and I took it for granted” Shauna told the Weekly Star. She said mourning silently was making her depressed, so she decided to face her daemons. “A few projects starting popping up about Breast Cancer awareness and I would try to get involved, but it would send me right back crying in the bed. I decided to tie it into work and teamed up with a top fashion photographer (Donn Thompson) in New York but even after we agreed on the concept, I delayed shooting the campaign and just couldn’t get strong enough to go ahead with it.” She said photojournalist Dwayne Watkins heard she was heading to Jamaica and contacted her about doing a shoot. “The photo shoot took on a life of it’s own and as soon as I saw this specific photo, I knew then that I had my campaign. When I see the girl in the photo, it just reflects such a humbling time for me and captured everything that I was feeling about taking back control from this crippling disease” she said.

Outside of the ad campaign, Chin is keeping busy as the Diaspora ambassador to the National Association of Jamaican and Supporting Organizations (NAJASO). She is a series regular on the Caribbean soap opera “The Blackburns” and just completed filming “Choices”, a featurette in Los Angeles where she plays an emergency room nurse. Chin is also in training for her next role as the assassin in an upcoming feature film “Spychosis”. “In this role, my character Victoria Bain is sent to kill the lead character Tom Arnold who is playing himself as a dormant CIA spy. It’s very exciting for me working alongside veterans in the Hollywood market” she explained! Chin is hoping to use her celebrity status to bring more film projects to the Jamaica to help boost the economy. “I’m working with the Film Commissioner Kim-Marie Spence to facilitate that” she disclosed.
