‘WE ARE ONE Caribbean’ & ‘WE ARE ONE Jamaica’
New York, New York — A movement of solidarity has risen among several business professionals and key organizations to address the lack of sponsorship aid to assist this year’s High School Caribbean athletes who will participate in the 2010 Penn Relays which kicks off on April 22 – 24, 2010 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The Penn Relays began in 1895 and has become one of the largest track & field events held in North America featuring some of the top collegiate and high school athletes from the USA and Caribbean.
Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) was created in 1995 and has since provided meals, transportation and amenities for the athletes and officials from the Caribbean. This year TJB’s President & Founder, Irwin Clare, has seen a significant drop in corporate sponsorship to aid “Our Athletes Our Ambassadors.” In an attempt to find alternative means of support and funding, Clare reached out to Carl Gray, President-CEO, The NetLinkz Group Inc to assist.
“For too long have we remained separated by nationalism and selfish desires which tends to deter the growth of our Caribbean people” Gray said.
“There needs to be a rallying point or concept where Caribbean people should have a common interest that everyone should support.”
The slogan that has been developed is “WE ARE ONE Caribbean” & “WE ARE ONE Jamaica” with the intent to create a united effort towards supporting the athletes who represent the future. As a show of support, tri-state local businesses and entertainment professionals are being asked to allow sale of custom t-shirts with these slogans at their venue and/or events during the month of April with the proceeds being donated to Team Jamaica Bickle.
